Besides moving on your board. Two good moves help you. Tic-Tacing helps for balance. That's raising your front wheels and shifting them from left to right. It's hard to learn at first but is useful in all situations. Then to learn tricks you must learn to ollie. This is the act of jumping up with the board still on your feet. You will find more under Here http://www.how2skate.com/guides/your_first_tricks.htm Here http://www.how2skate.com/tricks/ollie.htm Both are on the site under "Skateboarding Tricks" and "Guides & Tips" Take your time and don't over do it. Learning these take time and almost cannot be learned in a day. And you can hurt yourself by trying it frustrated. Do the trick the best you can then step away and see what went wrong. Use a mirror if you have a full body mirror. Or if you have a friend then have him record or watch you. Have fun. (Y)

I agree, tic-taccing isn't really a trick but a skill. It'll help develop balance and get you used to your board. Try practicing stationary and doing small tic-tacs; then swing your board wider and build up speed. Than the next step is learning how to ollie (or you can choose to learn manuals, which is balancing on one truck while riding) The ollie is the most fundamental trick in street and vert skating, it's the first building block that will help you learn many other tricks. Use the guide on this site as provided by Kmac above, and also be sure to check out youtube for hundreds of other guides on tricks. If you have any problems, ask the How2Skate community, be sure to specify what problems you're having and try to upload a video of you doing the trick so we can troubleshoot your problem. Thanks!

I recommend Railstands, as they are a quick way to get to know the "just landed something new" feeling that makes skating great.
