Stretching

Can stretching before a skate session improve your skating? Or does it do more bad than good for your muscles?

Some scientific studies say stretching is good, some say it's bad. So basically it's proven and disproven at the same time.

Read the pro and contra arguments below, try it out for yourself and let us know the results!

Why you should stretch

Stretching can make your muscles more flexible. This can help you jump higher and perhaps make faster movements like flips.

If you land in a split, your muscles will already be stretched, so it might do less damage.

Why you shouldn't stretch

If you overstretch, you might damage your muscles instead of making them flexible. Because of this, your muscles might feel sore even before you started.

Since the effects of stretching are very uncertain, why not use that stretching time to get pumped by watching a skatevid instead?

Please press "Like" if this helped you

I agree, I have gotten a lot more consistent because of stretching, and it helps me pump way faster.

A couple of recent studies show that stretching before you do activities (such as skating), increases the chances of tearing ligaments (such as your ACL). Stretching causes tiny rips, which makes it easier for them to tear.
