Railstand, primo and remo trick tip

Railstand is a position where you're standing on the side edges of your board. Railstands are often used in freestyle in the form of primo/remo flips or slides.

A railstand with the griptape facing your toes is called primo stand, and the other way round is a remo stand.

On this page you can learn how to get in and out of each type of railstand.

    Primo

    (Pictures by JackO)

  1. 1

Start with your feet above the bolts of your trucks. Put your front foot on the heelside edge and and curl the toes of your back foot over the toeside edge.

  2. 2

Push your front foot down on the edge, while pulling the board up with your back foot.

  3. 3

When the board is almost standing on its side, your back foot should already be standing on the edge and the back truck. Lift your front foot and place it on the edge and front truck and you're standing in primo.

  4. 4

To get out, push the trucks forward while jumping very slightly. Land with your feet above the bolts, like you started.

  5. Remo

  6. 5

Start with your feet above the bolts of your trucks.

  7. 6

Push the toeside edge of the board down while jumping a little. This should make the board flip.

  8. 7

When the 90 degree rotation is almost complete, put your feet on the edge of the board and the side of the trucks.

  9. 8

To get out, pull the trucks backwards while jumping very slightly. Land with your feet above the bolts, like you started.

Tips

  • If your board and trucks have a different width, it might be tricky to keep your balance.

  • It can be a little difficult get the board in the right position. Don't give up and don't be scared.

  • Advanced skaters can try to ollie or flip into railstand.
